August 22 My ideas on GeishaI saw a documentary about the life of Geisha in Japan. I had been wrong before I saw it. I had regarded the geisha as prostitutes. In fact, they are not. In Japan, Geisha is a profession that is highly regarded. It’s different from the so-called Hot Spring Geishas now who are the real prostitutes. Many westerners and those who like the profession of Geisha are afraid of the disappearing of Geishas. Geisha is a profession which is connected with luxury. They have to wear the most expensive kimonos. So there must be some rich to support them. But nowadays, the young generation in Japan like bar girls more than the Geishas. Therefore, it’s difficult for the Geishas to survive with the expensive kimonos, courses of dance, and so on. This phenomenon worried many historians, no matter they are Japanese or not. They want to let the tradition go on. But I don’t know whether they are right or not. Geisha is a profession of tradition. Geisha’s task is to make her client happy with her elegance, her knowledge of tea and her skills of traditional dance. But behind all of these, it’s the high price. Maybe I am someone who is really realistic, but I think if people like to spend less money for fun, why not? Geisha has been something really important in Japanese history. That's enough! let it go. Why should the young Japanese live a life like their fathers or grand fathers? They have their new life and they should enjoy their new ways of making fun. Anyway, I don’t like the geisha’s looks, especially their face-painting. It’s scaring. But someone said that it’s sexy! August 21 A Little AngryHow time flies! I don’t want to say so, but there is no choice. The summer holiday is going to be the end, but what I have done? Nothing! I’m a little angry with myself. When have I become what I am now? |
